Gaming has evolved greatly in the past twenty years. To see evidence of this, one only needs to look at the huge difference in graphics between the original Nintendo and the recently released Nintendo Wii. While there are many great games around right now-some of them classic games in the making--lots of gamers still revert back to playing the classic games.
What are the classic games? Well, there are many classic games on different game systems. In this article, we'll go over 5 of the best classic games.
Pac Man Classic Game
The concept of the game is simple enough: you control a yellow blob of something and strive to eat all the pebbles in a stage, while avoiding ghosts that you can only eat when you devour one of the big pebbles. You wouldn't think the game would still be popular, but it is. Despite its simplicity, Pac Man remains one of the most played classic games. It's old, but still a lot of fun to play.
Donkey Kong Classic Game
Donkey Kong is yet another one of the classic games that has a pretty basic set-up. The whole point of the game is to rescue the princess. In order to do that, Mario (your character) must jump over barrels that Donkey Kong (the villain who has the princess) throws at you. As the game progresses, this gets even harder. Originally released in the '80s, this basic game is still incredibly addictive and fun to play. It is one of the true classic games.
Goldeneye 007 Classic Game
This is one of the more recently released classic games. Goldeneye 007 was one of the flagship games for the now defunct Nintendo 64, a system that had its share of classic games including Mario Kart 64 and Super Mario 64. Many people have hailed the 007 game as one of the greatest first person shooters ever because of its great single and multi-player gameplay. Goldeneye 007 features several characters from the Goldeneye 007 film, including James Bond. The game closely mirrors the film, with your character (James Bond) taking on all the bad guys. It's definitely one of the best classic games, still played by a lot of people (including myself!).
Super Mario Bros. Classic Game
Super Mario Bros. is another one of the great classic games. Like in Donkey Kong, Mario is battling villains in an attempt to save princess Peach. In this game, Mario is trying to beat King Koopa's forces as well as the main villain, Bowser. Mario eventually succeeds, but not without some help from his brother, Luigi. Despite Super Mario Bros. amateur graphics and gameplay, many avid gamers still love to play this now 20+ year old game. And why wouldn't they? It's one of the best classic games ever, if not the best.
Sonic Classic Game
Sonic is Sega's flagship character. The original Sega game, released on the Sega Genesis, was and still is among the classic games. Like Mario, Sonic is a hero. Unlike Mario, he is a hedgehog. His mission is to collect rings and beat villains. He has a side-kick named Tails, a flying fox who helps him battle villains. While Sonic games have been released on many systems, including Game Boy Advance, Sega Dreamcast, Xbox and the Nintendo GameCube, the original Sega remains the most loved by games. This is truly one of the top 5 classic games.
